Everything you want to know about PVC bonding

At which temperatures can you process PVC adhesive? Which pre-treatment is necessary? This page presents a list of questions about PVC bonding frequently asked in practice.

Why is PVC adhesive certified?

Many PVC bonds must be suitable for e.g. drinking water or specific fertilizers. This is why SABA has been awarded KIWA, KIWA-ATA or KOMO certificates or CE marking for various PVC bonding products! See the different packaging and product data sheets for which PVC adhesives have which certificates.

Can I also work at lower temperatures?

Yes, provided the temperature is no lower than 5°C. Below that level, there is too much condensation on the adhesive film, which becomes ‘locked in’ as a result. When the temperature is too low, there is a risk that the bond may appear to be in order, but that its true strength will only be revealed when the installation is subject to pressure.

Where can I buy SABA PVC adhesives?

SABA has an entire distribution network. See the distributors’ page for your nearest distributor, or contact us.

Why is it so important to use a SABA cleaner with PVC bonding?

Optimal and safe PVC pipe connections require optimal (application) conditions. The pipes must be clean and free of oil and grease. Sabaclean also treats the PVC surface, so that the adhesive can do its job to perfection.

Which pre-treatments need to take place?

See the application instructions on the packaging for this, or contact us for application advice

Can I still use adhesive that has been stored at too cold a temperature?

You can use all SABA PVC adhesives again. In our R&D laboratories, we have extensively tested the resilience of adhesives that have been frozen, We do this according to the freeze-thaw stability NEN DIN EN 1239 testing method. This involves storing adhesives for many hours below 0°C, and then allowing them to return to room temperature. The quality and application characteristics are then tested again. Our PVC adhesives pass these tests without any difficulty. Please see the product data sheets for the exact data on application temperatures, storage temperatures and temperature resistance per product.

Do I need to wear protection when working with PVC adhesive?

The need for optimal protection is self-evident. You should therefore refer to the instructions on the relevant product and safety data sheet.

When can I pressurize bonded PVC pipes?

Based on our many years of experience and continuous consultations with manufacturers of PVC pipes, a table has been drawn up with drying times for PVC bonding.

Where can I get hold of more product information?

The information on this website is constantly being updated, in order to keep it as up-to-date as possible. However, if anything is missing, please contact us.

How strong are SABA PVC adhesives?

You can take it that the resilience of the PVC adhesives is at least as great as that of the pipes themselves. If you require more precise information on the strength, please send us your specific details. We will be happy to assess this for you, together with our R&D department.

What does the CE marking mean on adhesive and sealant products intended for the building industry?

Since the introduction of the European Construction Products Regulation in 2013, building products that comply with a harmonized European standard (hEN) must also have a Declaration of Performance (DoP). You can identify these construction products by the extended CE marking. The DoP for SABA products is shown on the relevant product page on this website. Click here for a review of the harmonized standards

What is a Declaration of Performance?

A Declaration of Performance (DoP) is a document drawn up by the producer, containing a summary of the key features of the product. These key features are recorded in European standards and the DoP therefore has to follow a statutory format. The values shown are determined by the manufacturer or by a test institute. The classification is also clearly shown in the DoP.
